By plane

Avignon has a small airport, but in June you will probably fly in to Marseille or Montpellier.

From Marseille, take the shuttle into the main train station (Gare Saint-Charles) and, from there, a TGV (high speed train) to Avignon.

From Montpellier, take the shuttle into the main train station (Gare Saint-Roch) and, from there, again a TGV will take you to Avignon.

By TGV

Avignon is situated on the Paris-Marseille and Paris-Montpellier lines and so is easily reached by train. If you do come by train, do not forget to have your ticket stamped (composter), before you get on board. This is done in one of the yellow machines, on the platform or in the station.

Note that the TGV station is some 3 miles outside the city centre. There is a shuttle service, called "La Virgule", which will take you into the station in the centre. The ticket costs 1,60€.

Intramuros, or inside the city walls, parking is limited and paying. If you bring a car, you are advised either to park at the hotel or to leave your vehicle outside the city walls, during your stay. The university does not have on site parking facilities, but there is a free car park relatively close to the university, called the Parking des Italiens (in the North East corner of the city map).
